Welcome to the Fermata October Newsletter, dear Fermata Parents & Students! We can’t believe we’re already well-bedded into our second month of incredible music lessons with Fermata Crew. This newsletter has some important news to share, so we encourage you to screen through the message, as an update might be directly relevant to you!
October, as every year, brings many additional events and activities that steer our little music community through the year. We have already started planning for Halloween break, and the Christmas Recital plans are well-bedded in. But let’s start with a priority list of stuff that is IMPORTANT to you! Here we go:
I. 9th Annual Kids’ Music Day—Celebrate Fermata Music School OPEN DAY Success!
The 9th Annual Kids’ Music Day was a great OPEN DAY event at Fermata Music School Lucan. From the Fermata-Try-Me-Outs to Little Music Roots and Fermata String Vibes, there was a little for everyone. Thank you to ALL existing and new Fermata parents & students who joined us on this lovely day to celebrate the 9th Annual Kids Music Day.
II. 4th Annual Halloween Music Contest – The Spooktacular Halloween Music Contest
Fermata’s 4th Annual Halloween Music Contest is here! Submit your best Halloween performance by 31st October to win exciting music or sweet prizes. The crisp autumn air, the whispering of leaves, and the anticipation of Halloween – it’s that spine-chillingly fun time of the year again! And at Fermata, we’re taking Halloween to the next level with our 3rd Annual Students Costume Contest.
Why Join the Festive Fright? 🎃
Show the Fermata Crew Your Creative Side: Whether you’re a ghostly ghoul, a whimsical witch, or have a penchant for the peculiar, now’s the time to let your creative spirits fly!
Music Meets Costume: Integrating a musical element into your costume gives you extra special points. Are you a phantom pianist or a vampire violinist? Let your imagination run wild!
Fantastic Prizes: Our contest isn’t just about the spooks—it’s also about the rewards! We have some fabulous prizes for the most fascinating entries this year.
How to Enter: It’s simple! Wear your best Halloween costume. Snap a short video playing your chosen piece in the costume. Send your entries to Fermata via WhatsApp at 085 125 7503. But don’t ghost us—make sure to submit your entries by 31 October. Our esteemed Fermata Committee will choose the winners by 6 November. We can’t wait to see the magical, mystical, and musical avatars you come up with! Don’t hesitate to contact the Fermata Team with any other questions or share the excitement.
III. RIAM EXAMS DEADLINES – WINTER 2024 – ONLINE EXAM ENTRIES by 30 October 2024
For the DIGITALLY RECORDED exam this winter session, the fees must be paid before the 30th October 2024 deadline—there are no EXTRA FEES when booking with Fermata.
For In-Person RIAM Exams, we will have an on-site examiner visit in late February/Early March 2025.
IV. MUSIC THEORY with IVA – MEET THE REQUIREMENTS and EXCEL in MUSIC!
ALL STUDENTS ATTEMPTING RIAM EXAMS WE RECOMMEND TO PARTICIPATE to get the maximum Music Theory Marks on the exam assessment sheet. It’s only a 30-minute ONLINE LESSON per week. With this extra Music Theory class + Exclusive Online Resources, Fermata Music School can cover mandatory aspects such as AURAL TESTS, SIGHT-READING, DEEPER UNDERSTADING THEORY, and MUCH MORE. Music Theory is not just a bunch of memorising signs – it’s a complex language. When attended, music theory opens our eyes to a broader understanding of music. Starting Music Theory early can bring massive benefits when executing a more advanced music repertoire in your future music career. If you wish YOUR CHILD to understand Music Theory better, sign in for ONLINE MUSIC THEORY CLASSES. We charge ONLY €5/class and no more than €20/month.

BOOK YOUR MUSIC THEORY VIA PARENTS & STUDENTS PORTAL:

2. Got the correct Date and Click the Event you wish to book
3. Click Register
4. Pick a One-Off or Recurring booking and click REGISTER again.
5. ONLINE MUSIC THEORY CLASS IS NOW BOOKED (same process applies to any other OPEN EVENT)
V. FERMATA SOTTO VOCE – Begin your SINGING adventure with Cibele and Fermata Sotto Voce on Monday at 7.30 PM!
The Fermata Sotto Voce – Lucan’s Choir from Scratch seeks new members to join us in 2024. Join us every Monday evening at Fermata Sotto Voce, the choir from scratch project with a movement twist. Born from a shared passion for music and community, this choir is not just about notes and rhythms but about experiences, emotions, and memories created while singing your favourite song! If you are 16+ and LOVE to SING – you should apply!

VI. FERMATA REFERRAL PROGRAMME – how to SAVE on your Music Lesson Fees.
It’s SO SIMPLE! Refer a new student/family to Fermata Music School, and you will get €25 Fermata Credit as a reward! (T&Cs apply). New student gets 25% off 1st lesson and a pack of 10 lessons for €269.
VII. Halloween Mid-Term Break 2024 — Yes, it starts in October! Note the dates, and keep it SAHRP!
This year’s Halloween mid-term break in Fermata Music School falls between Monday, 28 October, and Sunday, 3 November. The Regular Weekend Schedule will apply to classes on Saturday, the 26th, and Sunday, the 27th of October, unless your teacher approaches you directly to change the dates.
VIII. OUR LITTLE AUTUMN REMINDER – IT’S FLU SEASON, STAY ALERT. Wear a mask if necessary.
The days are getting darker, and wetter days are on the horizon. Due to the flu season, we are already experiencing a slight increase in students’ absences from lessons. It’s equally important for teachers, students, and parents to remain healthy and sound during the winter period. If you are experiencing any symptoms, please wear a mask during your lessons. If you are SICK, DO NOT ATTEND the class. We can connect for a VIDEO LESSON with you – it is so SIMPLE, yet EFFECTIVE for not missing a class. NOTE: If you are COMING SICK to the class, the teacher is exposed and might need to take time off to deal with illness.
IX. FERMATA ATTENDANCE POLICY – REFRESH and comply.
We encourage you, dear parents and students, to refresh with the Fermata Attendance Policy, which allows our school to function as a business and will enable us to continue trading. It’s regrettable, but we must maintain a VERY STRICT attendance approach in the current economic climate. We can offer a replacement lesson in specific circumstances and if the absence is reported well in advance. Sometimes, lessons might be provided by a SUPPLEMENTARY TEACHER.
